Spend a day full of joy and excitement exploring the coastal part of Morocco. Today is dedicated to exploring the musteries of Essaouira and Agadir on the coat of the Atlantic.
In the morning, we leave Marrakech and set off for Essaouira.
Essaouira drags back a long and rich history behind it. From Carthage’s trading post, the Moroccan Berber king Juba, the Roman settlement, to the middle ages ND the battles between the Portuguese and the ruling Muslim dynasties. Archeological excavations have brought to light many of that history. Among findings were a Roman vase, coins and other ancient artifacts. Visit Museum and a look at all those excavated objects as well as other Moroccan handmade furniture, tools, and clothes.
The ramparts of the city is worth visiting. Enjoy watching the fortified walls and armory of the past and recall those past memories through what this has preserved. Take a walk through the beautiful colorful alleys inside the old Medina answer it’s white-Bleu decorated traditional houses.
The beach is another fortune. Enjoy the coastal cool breeze and the beautiful sea waves. Taste the sea fruits in one of the local restaurants.
After lunch we take the coastal road to Taroudante. Most time we drive by the Atlantic side. We pass by Argan trees and the local farmers. See the incredible skill of goats climbing the branched Argan trees.
The night in Taroudante
Use the morning for a wander in the city of Taroudant. It is called the Mother of Marrakech, as it is, indeed, a small version of Marrakech. It was built by Almoravids back in the 11th century, and is famous with its markets, still standing ramparts, and the fortifying wall that stretches about 6 km long with for gates.
We take to the road to Chegagat dunes in the middle of the desert. But along the way we pass by Taliouin, known for growing saffron, Taznaght, the home of the Moroccan Berber carpets, and Foum Zgit, the gate to the desert.
We have several stops in those towns to explore what they offer. We have lunch in the road.
When arriving to Chegagat, you will have a unique experience of a trekking on the camels’ back and see the sunset on the high dunes.
Enjoy an exciting night in a comfortable nomad tent with nomad music, dance, and around fire. Take a moment outside the camp to watch the starry sky, and live the experience of seeing how bright they are as you have never seen them like this before.

Wake up early in the morning to watch the sunrise on the dunes; it is a fascinating moment you definitely don’t want to miss!
After breakfast, it is time to drive to Zagora and the palm oasis. Have a break in Mhamid town and taste the Sahraoui tea in one of the local cafes. Along the way to Zagora, there stretches the eastern desert and it rocky hills. We have a stop at the village of Tamegroute, a small town that is famous for traditional pottery and ceramics as well as the spiritual and religious center of Nasiriyya Zawiya.
Enjoy the palms that extends tens of kilometers along the banks of Daraa Valley. We have lunch in Zagora. And then head to Agdz.
Nigh in Agdz
We take road to Ouarzazate to visit Kasbah Tourirt and the Cinema Museum. We leave Ouarzazate to start climbing the High Atlas.We take a turn to visit the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO world heritage site. We have luch at one of the restaurants there before taking a walk visit to the Kasbah and climb its narrow pathways to the old granary.
We take the national road N 9 climbing the High Atlas, mounts know as Tiz-n-Tichka. We pass through multiple villages scattered on both sides of the road along the rocky footsteps. Experience the changes in geological structures from the middle to the south, smooth sometimes but sudden and stunningly unexpected at most. Enjoy a stop for the Altitude of 2.260 km, the top spot on the road. We have some other stops to see the panorama of the High Atlas, the villages and houses scattered along the narrow valleys and the traditional shops and bazaars that display the Berber carpets and handmade products. Get your camera ready for the job!
We arrive at Marrakech at noon.
